ADDING PLUS SIZES: Rent the Runway is getting real. The Web site for renting designer dresses and accessories already has a social shopping platform called Our Runway with user-generated photos of women who are not models wearing rentable dresses. On Tuesday, the company introduced RTR Plus offering dresses in sizes 14 to 22, with over 40 large size styles from Badgley Mischka, Carmen Marc Valvo, Theia, Kay Unger and Adrianna Papell. Prices range from $50 to $200 and the assortment offers everything from classic little black dresses to evening gowns.
“When we launched Rent the Runway, we didn’t fully understand that our business was going to be about so much more than saving money, but rather, feeling empowered,” said Jennifer Hyman, chief executive officer and co-founder of Rent the Runway. “Every woman deserves to feel beautiful before the most important occasions in her life and every woman regardless of her size should have her choice of the designer dress that gives her the most self-confidence.”
