RED TIDE: Christian Louboutin continued his whirl of public appearances to celebrate his 20th anniversary collection on Friday at Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills, where women began lining up at 7 a.m. “I started out with my own store, so I’m a salesman too, and I really love talking with customers,” he said. “They share their stories and I share mine, and together we spin new ones.” The ground floor shoe department was decorated with a huge street art mural by Galo, as were the store’s windows. Louboutin said the idea came from one of his graffitti-inspired shoes. “The collection features things I love, from showgirls to handicrafts to artisana.”
Galo also created a mural against a wall of canvas Louboutin bags for the dinner that night at Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where guests including Mary J. Blige were invited to take home a piece of the art. As for women whom Louboutin said he would’ve liked to see in his shoes, he cited Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe: “Nobody looked as good as Marilyn from the back. The way she walked was magical.”
