REAL FAKE: Nicole Miller was understandably nervous this week, since U.S. Customs officials refused to release 20 pairs of snake-printed shoes she had made in Asia for her runway show. After a month of failed negotiating and much hand-wringing, Miller offered to sandpaper the shoes to prove they aren’t really snakeskin, chief executive officer Bud Konheim said Thursday. Fortunately, their broker proved the shoes were fake. “After 42 shows, I really thought I have seen everything but this was a new one to me,” Konheim said.
