The former creative director of De Beers has launched a collection of jewelry that features loose diamonds, minus their traditional settings.

FREEDOM FIGHTER: Raphaele Canot, the former creative director of De Beers Diamond Jewellers and a veteran of Cartier, has launched a collection of jewelry that features loose diamonds, minus their traditional settings. The laser-pierced diamonds dangle and wink from earrings, chains, and rings and come in colors such as white, black and honey. The Set Free collection launched exclusively at Dover Street Market in London this week. “I’m breaking with tradition, setting diamonds free,” said the French-born, London-based Canot over tea at Dover Street Market. “Diamonds sparkle more when they are out of their setting. They keep moving and catch the light more — and they are virtually weight-free.”


Canot has also designed an Art Deco-inspired collection that sits alongside the loose diamonds at Dover Street Market. Among the pieces in her Skinny Deco collection are slim, diamond eternity rings edged in colored enamel and bracelets that feature a single geometric, charm-like shape on a fine chain. The shapes are all set with diamonds — some of which have been placed upside down. Prices range from 880 pounds, or $1,490, for black diamond and pink gold studs, to 3,800 pounds, or $6,440, for a gray diamond and pink gold necklace.
