RAISING A GLASS: The art of the dinner party was alive and well on Tuesday night.
“Margarita?” Patricia Herrera Lansing offered as guests moseyed at the door of her SoHo loft — Allison Williams, Alexi Ashe Meyers, Michael Bastian and Alexandra Kerry among them.
Lansing was taking a break from fashion week preparations to host an intimate dinner, along with Allison Aston, for Daniel Cappello and his newest book, “Dinner Diaries,” to which both hostesses contributed their thoughts and rules on dinner-party etiquette.
“I love dinner parties because it’s a way of discovery, of people you don’t know,” Aston mused during cocktail hour, margarita in hand, natch. “You get to know each other a little bit better.”
“I’d rather go to someone’s house than a restaurant. It’s so much more fun. You can get house drunk,” Lansing said in jest, an allusion to her response in Cappello’s book to the fill-in-the-blank question, “No dinner party would be complete without.” Lansing answered “a drunk,” Aston wrote in an enthusiastic “Booze!”
As for what Cappello considers the biggest dinner-party faux pas, the writer was definitive in his answer: “Not showing up.”
