NOTHING LIKE A DAME: Queen Elizabeth has bestowed one of her highest honors on Zandra Rhodes for services to British fashion and textiles: damehood. The designer famous for her vivid prints — and hair — was a pillar of Sixties and Seventies British fashion and is the founder of the Fashion and Textile Museum in London.

She was given the title, which is equivalent to a knighthood, as part of the annual Queen’s Birthday Honors. Rhodes was given the title this year along with Hilary Mantel, author of the prize-winning Tudor-era novels “Wolf Hall” and “Bring Up the Bodies.” Angelina Jolie, who is not a British citizen, was made an honorary dame for her work toward ending sexual violence worldwide.
