PRIZE FIGHT: Cédric Charlier, Julien David, Vika Gazinskaya, Calla Haynes, Thomas Tait and Nicolas Andreas Taralis are the six finalists going head-to-head for this year’s Andam Fashion Award. Valued at 230,000 euros, or about $300,000 at current exchange, the French prize will be awarded on July 5 by a 24-member jury made up of both Andam sponsors and fashion professionals, including Delphine Arnault, deputy managing director of Christian Dior, representing the LVMH Group; Pierre Bergé, representing the Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation; Federico Marchetti, founder and chief executive officer of Yoox Group; Sarah Andelman, purchasing manager and creative director of Colette; Pamela Golbin, chief curator of fashion and textiles at the Les Arts Décoratifs; Humberto Leon, co-owner of Opening Ceremony, and Nicole Phelps, executive editor of Style.com.
Having a Parisian project in view is a prerequisite to be eligible for the prize.
The winner will also receive two seasons’ worth of mentoring from Pierre-Yves Roussel, chief executive officer of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s fashion division, as well as a donation of Swarovski Elements to the value of 10,000 euros, or $13,250. Canadian department store Hudson’s Bay Co. has also pledged to buy the winner’s spring-summer 2013 collection, with the fall lines of all six finalists due to go on sale this September on Thecorner.com, Andam’s exclusive online retail partner.
Past Andam winners include Giles Deacon, Gareth Pugh and, most recently, Anthony Vaccarello.
The four finalists for Andam’s First Collections Award, worth 60,00 euros, or $80,000, are: Calla Haynes, Simon Jacquemus, Céline Méteil and Pièce d’Anarchive.
