POSEN’S PLEDGE: Zac Posen pulled up a chair to talk about his 11-year career with Ruth Finley at Thursday’s FNW/Trends luncheon at the National Arts Club in New York. Energized as he is by his burgeoning e-commerce and increasingly international wholesale business, the designer sounded true blue. “We’ve had sort of an explosion of extra casual dressing. It’s important for Americans to put more effort into what they wear. A lot of young people and adults are talking a lot about what they believe in now. It’s important to dress as you believe and to enjoy fashion too,” Posen said. “So many people are following fashion now. It’s become fashion-tainment. People should dress [well] again especially for all the great American designers there are. This is a place to dress.”
As for his own attire, Posen said he designs what he wears and recently had a few of his pieces re-created while traveling in Asia. “That would be interesting to take one jacket and have it made in 19 countries. It sounds like a Prada conceptual art project,” he said.
Known to tweet photos of his travels, art finds and home cooked creations, Posen said he is always at the elbow of the staffer who types his tweets. “I tell her exactly what to say — every word,” Posen said.
