PORSCHE REVS UP WOMEN’S: Porsche Design celebrated its 40th anniversary in Los Angeles Tuesday night at the Sheats Goldstein house designed by John Lautner. The brand, which originally comprised both men’s and women’s collections (the iconic aviator glasses were originally designed for women), is relaunching its women’s offerings with apparel, shoes and handbags, some of which debuted last night during a fashion presentation and on hostess Kate Beckinsale, who carried the Twin bag in white. Other iconic pieces ranging from knives to watches were displayed throughout the home all evening, and the brand plans a formal show of the men’s and women’s collection in New York on Saturday. “We wanted to do a kind of MoMA for Porsche Design in this house,” said ceo Juergen Gessler. “Our first retail store in the U.S. opened on Rodeo Drive in 1991, and L.A. is our biggest market in the U.S., so we wanted to do an event here. Retail is very much a focus in the future.” After the New York show, all the pieces will be available in Porsche Designs’ 120 stores worldwide.
