FEET FIRST: “Unpacking 60 Years of Pollini” was the title of the celebratory installation featuring a haphazard tower of white shoe boxes, primarily filled Sixties and Seventies archival hits, including Mod-inspired boots, multi-colored wedges and Mary Janes in glossy leathers.
Shelved on the bottom row was the current collection designed by Nicholas Kirkwood, who modernized the same vibe with checkered platform boots and a chunky-heeled loafer in russet and navy with bold gold hardware. Beckoning from inside a wooden showcase were six standout boots made with combos of lace, shearling, floral rubber and geometric cutouts, each one a tribute to an icon from each decade including Monica Vitti, Ellen von Unwerth and Grace Jones.
“We wanted to give people the chance to look at Pollini's past and heritage, which was sleek and sexy, as well as the breadth of different women who wore the shoes,” Kirkwood said.
