POWERED UP: While plastic surgeon Shirley Madhere sees her share of women who like to take adavantage of the holiday break to get facelifts, botox or vitaglow micro injections, she donates select services to charity auctions to help maintain an inner balance. She also recently founded B4E (Beauty 4 Empowerment), a site set up to encourage the beauty industry to adopt creative strategies for sustainable economic growth and independence for impoverished and disadvantaged citizens around the world. (Lily Cole is B4E’s goodwill amabassador.)
Interested in lining up corporations or companies that will hep set up education and career training programs, Madhere said, “We need the beauty industry to be a bit more engaging and empowering women.”
Contradictory as Madhère’s pursuits may seem, they are true to her private practice, which centers on a holistic approach with reiki, homeopathy and acupuncture being among the pre-op practices that are suggested. The way she sees it “beauty and healing emanate from within, and our external appearance is a reflection of inner health of the mind, body, and spirit.” Partial to wearing Azzedine Alaïa, Lanvin, Bottega Veneta, Chanel, The Row and other designer labels when consulting with patients in her downtown office, Madhere said. “Your personal style and state of beauty expresses how you are feeling from one day to the next. I very much believe in putting one’s best self forward to increase the feeling of wellness,” she said.
