Omega Fetes Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Timepiece

The company celebrated its new watch on Tuesday with a cocktail party-turned-art installation.

PINK FLOYD AND PIPER: Omega watches feted their new timepiece, the Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon, on Tuesday with a cocktail party-turned-art installation. The event, held at Cedar Lake in Manhattan in partnership with the Artists Council, Director’s Council and Future Leadership Council of the Whitney Museum of American Art, drew the likes of Taylor Schilling, Patrick Wilson, Jaime King, Coco Rocha, Wes Gordon, Yigal Azrouël and Jodie and Danielle Snyder.

Schilling, still riding high off the season two premiere of “Orange Is the New Black,” admired the Omega timepiece adorning her wrist. “I love simple, signature pieces,” she said. The watch would not be following her fictional alter ego, Piper Chapman, to prison, however. “I think [sneaking in a watch] would get Piper into a hell of a lot of trouble, as if she’s not in enough already,” Schilling said. “That would not help her cause.”

The new model salutes the astronauts of the Apollo 8 mission, who in 1968 were the first to see the dark side of the moon. Taking inspiration from this feat, the updated version of Omega’s Co-Axial Speedmaster style is crafted from a single block of black zirconium oxide ceramic.
