Pierre Cardin Sponsors Cocteau Exhibition, Inaugurates New Maxim's Boat

The show commemorates the 50th anniversary of the artist’s death.

OF BOATS AND MEN: Pierre Cardin is among the sponsors of an exhibition of drawings, including self-portraits, of poet and artist Jean Cocteau that is showing this week at the town hall of Paris’ 16th arrondissement. The “Cocteau par Cocteau” show, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of the artist’s death, is open to the public starting today until Oct. 12. The link between Cardin and Cocteau goes back a long way; Cardin designed costumes for hisi 1945 movie “Beauty and the Beast,” notably.

 

The nonagenarian designer has also added a second boat to his Maxim’s restaurant empire. The 130-foot-long vessel, dubbed the Bateau Ivre, was inaugurated on Sept. 26 and will be used for private receptions.
