FOR THE SUDAN: Photographer Mike Mellia and model Nykhor Paul are doing what they can to try to draw more attention to the violence and exile in South Sudan. For the new exhibition “Our Side of the Story: South Sudan,” Mellia photographed Paul, who has worked for Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein and Diane von Furstenberg among other clients, and other South Sudanese models, actors and humanitarians, all of whom were former refugees or child soldiers.

In addition to fellow models Ajak Deng, Ataui Deng, Eligha Ojoko, Mari Agory and Mary Stiletto Malek, Ger Duany, who played a refugee in David O. Russell’s “I (Heart) Huckabees” and who Tyson Beckford introduced to modeling, will also be featured in the show, among others. The exhibition bows with a private event April 10 at the Tapir Editions Gallery in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood.

Nykhor embraces the philosophy “We are Nilotic” in the hopes all people along the Nile River will unite, Mellia said.
