LIGHTING THE WAY: Supermodel and philanthropist Petra Nemcova introduced her Be The Light New York luxury candle collection to Houston at a private luncheon, spreading her message of joy through personalized gifts and her love of travel.

Nemcova immediately endeared the exclusive crowd of Houston socialites and bold-faced names gathered at Triniti Restaurant with her request to chat with each of them and pose for pictures. The well-heeled group was happy to comply, buying Nemcova’s artisanal crafted and American-made candles during the event.

Gina Cartwright and Jennifer Grigsby, owners of local boutique Cakwalk Style Shop, brought Nemcova to Houston and hosted the luncheon in her honor. Nemcova discovered the store after falling for the chic look and philosophy of their web site. The trio connected and five weeks later, Nemcova was in Houston. It was an ideal opportunity for Nemcova to spread the message of her lifestyle company.

“I’m often invited to the homes of people who have everything and I didn’t know what to bring them. I usually bring chocolates and candles, but wanted something personal and meaningful,” Nemcova said.

Nemcova’s luxury lifestyle collection also includes the Made In Peru Alpaca selection of pillows and blankets. While she was reticent to share details, Nemcova said the next addition to her collection is coming soon.

Nemcova is spending the Christmas holidays with her family in the Czech Republic before heading to Haiti where she is an Ambassador-at-Large, where is actively involved in rebuilding the weather-battered country.

“Whether it’s giving a gift or building a school for children, we all have the opportunity to create joy,” Nemcova said.
