PETER’S PRIDE: Speaking of French awards, Peter Marino has been named a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Cultural Ministry of France. The prolific architect has also been spreading his creative wings. A series of sculptural bronze boxes, designed by Marino were shown last month at the Paris Biennale. Marino, whose uniform is full-on leather biker regalia, made the seven sculptures using poured bronze that’s been gilded, silvered and blackened.
“They’re based on bronze doors that I’ve created for private residences,” he said, adding, “I’ve wanted to sculpt since I was 17.”
An avid collector of bronzes and sculpture, Marino’s private collection of 17th century Renaissance and Baroque bronzes was exhibited at the Wallace Collection in London in 2010. Marino, who designs flagships worldwide for the ne plus ultra of luxury brands, including, among others, Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Fendi and Ermenegildo Zegna, will be inducted into the order in November. The only question now is: What will he wear to the ceremony?
