Persol Toasts Master Crafts

The eyewear brand honored Sir Ben Kingsley and Terry Gilliam on Thursday night.

Filmmakers, actors and eyewear enthusiasts strutted the red carpet to check out Persol’s “Magnificent Obsessions Exhibition” at New York’s Center 548 Thursday night.

Honoring actor Sir Ben Kingsley, costume designer Milena Canonera and director Terry Gilliam, the exhibit paid homage to iconic films like “Taxi Driver,” “Gandhi,” “Vertigo” and “Brazil,” that display the craftsmanship the eyewear brand prizes.

“I’m an obsessive dressmaker. It took me hours to sew this, ” said a deadpan Sir Ben Kingsley, pointing to the black sequined gown donned by his wife, Daniela.

The actor was in a rather jovial mood, having ended shooting for the day on his latest film co-starring comedian Sacha Baron Cohen. “Comedy is a science. I eat spinach and I do my weights, and I stay fit,” he said, describing his regiment.

Although they were there for the exhibit, which is open to the public from June 17 to 19, and then will travel later this month to Paris and to Milan in September, current projects seemed to be the topic of conversation.

“I had a ball in Paris,” said fellow honoree, Milena Canonera, who just finished working in the French capital on Roman Polanski’s upcoming film, “Carnage.” “Roman leaves a lot of freedom.”

A six-month pregnant Rebecca Minkoff sidestepped questions regarding upcoming projects, opting instead to talk about her forthcoming biggest one.

“I’m growing him,” said the designer, pointing to her belly. “I’m open to suggestions for baby names.”

Other notable attendees included director Terry Gilliam, former ‘N Sync star Lance Bass and actress Famke Janssen, who posed for a few photos before making a bee-line for the exhibit, shirking the press.

Late night revelers snuck upstairs to Center 548’s rooftop for a VIP party where guests watched “La Dolce Vita” on flat screens, and sipped cocktails while lounging on plush white leather chairs.
