BOO WHO: French designer Léa Peckre’s intriguing cemeteries-themed collection sure didn't spook the fashion jury at this weekend's Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography.
The 26-year-old La Cambre, Brussels-schooled designer scooped the event’s main L’Oréal Professional Grand Prize, valued at 15,000 euros, about $22,200 at current exchange rates, for her intricately constructed collection that featured an angular tailcoat-inspired jacket in black velvet and skirts with organic flounces richly embroidered with wood-effect sequins. The looks were styled with black head scarves resembling nun’s habits.
Fellow French designer Céline Méteil, who has worked for John Galliano, and Balenciaga, won the new Première Vision prize, valued at 10,000 euros, or $14,800, plus the audience award.
Swiss designer Emilie Meldem received a special mention from the jury. Raf Simons presided over the festival's fashion jury, which included Style.com journalist Tim Blanks, designer Christopher Kane and Corso Como founder Carla Sozzani.
