LOOKING WESTWARD: Paule Ka was showing a resolutely more commercial, less retro-chic style for fall, with an "uptown-downtown” layered theme described as a tribute to the U.S. Indeed, the French brand is expanding its business across the Atlantic, where it opened a subsidiary last year and is putting finishing touches on a showroom on New York’s Madison Avenue. Paule Ka is hoping to attract U.S. department store accounts with the new collection, according to a spokesman, and ultimately plans to open its own New York boutique. In the U.S., the brand is already sold online at saks.com and neimanmarcus.com.
