PARIS DIGS: The launch of Qela, Qatar’s first homegrown luxury brand, is gathering pace. Qatar Luxury Group has signed a lease on a boutique on Avenue Montaigne in Paris ahead of the introduction of the line in spring, according to Caroline Guillon, vice president marketing and p.r. for the group. The unit at 50 Avenue Montaigne, previously occupied by struggling French luxury linens firm D. Porthault, spans 5,400 square feet, including storage and back-office spaces. The opening date of the store has yet to be determined, said Guillon.
Qatar Luxury Group, which owns a majority stake in French accessories brand Le Tanneur, first revealed plans to launch Qela in 2011, adding that it intended to build a portfolio of brands, with its fashion business spanning high-end footwear, leather goods, jewelry and ready-to-wear. It now expects to unveil the Qela collection in Doha in late spring.
