ROLLING IN THE ART: As the sponsor of T.J. Wilcox’s “In the Air” exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Pamella Roland was sure to dress for Thursday night’s opening in one of her own creations — a black jacquard top with sheer insets and a coordinating pencil skirt. The designer and the artist first bonded over their shared enthusiasm for New York City.
Wilcox’s unconventional exhibition offers a 360-degree rooftop view of the city. While Mattthew Barney, Elizabeth Pyton, Anne Collier, Beth DeWoody, Yvonne Force Villareal and other guests milled about, Roland and Wilcox were overheard chatting about how Manhattan influences their work. Roland designs and produces her signature collection in New York City. She recently added to her repertoire by introducing a Pamella label which will arrive in stores this spring. For what will be a three-times-a-year collection, Roland dipped into her archives to reinterpret bestsellers for more affordable prices. Fans of her brand can also still buy the higher-end Pamella Roland collection in stores.
In the Air will be on view through February 9.
