OVER-THE-TOP TABLETOP: For an interior design event, Monday night’s DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) gala at Pier 94 drew quite a few fashion types. The night honored Alfredo Paredes, executive vice president and chief retail creative officer at Ralph Lauren Corp., with the inaugural David Rockwell DIFFA Service Award. Ralph and Ricky Lauren, David Lauren and his wife, Lauren Bush Lauren, as well as Jerry Lauren and Buffy Birrittella were among those who came to show support of Paredes, who has been a DIFFA trustee for years. Ralph Lauren himself presented the executive with the honor. “He started out as a son and ended up as my father,” Lauren joked. “Alfredo is unique.” Tablescapes were the order of the evening, with settings by Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, Richard Chai, David Stark, Evette Rios, Jonathan Adler and Christopher Peacock, as well as New York’s top design schools led by mentors like Clodagh and Isabel and Ruben Toledo. A total of 460 stayed for dinner while many more came for cocktails and the silent auction, which all told raised about $650,000.
