OUT WEST: Scoop NYC partnered with the Hammer Museum to inaugurate its first California store on Wednesday evening with a bustling cocktail party attended by 230 people, including co-hosts Minnie Mortimer, Sasha Alexander, Brooke Kanter, Jessica Capshaw and JeromeRousseau. Scoop NYC chief executive officer Susan Davidson said the retailer decided to locate the 2,700-square-foot store at 216 26th St. in Santa Monica, Calif., because the demographics were similar to a successful store in Greenwich, Conn. Among the brands that have been popular with customers are Kimberly Ovitz, Zac Posen, Michael Kors and Rag & Bone. The store is expected to generate in excess of $1,400 in sales per square foot annually. Davidson said Scoop NYC could have as many as three stores in the Los Angeles area, and she has been upfront about her desire to locate a unit in Beverly Hills. Asked about the take of Scoop NYC owner Ron Burkle’s Yucaipa Cos. on the retailer’s entrance into its hometown, Davidson said, “They know this market certainly way better than we do, and they are very supportive of our strategy.” Within the next 12 months, Scoop NYC plans to open three to five stores, including one possibly in California.
