OUT EAST: “This is like a little warm-up for us,” David Lauren said Saturday night. He was taking a brief respite from greeting duties as guests filed into the newly revamped Polo Ralph Lauren store on Main Street in East Hampton, among a smattering of Navajo-motifed merch, reclaimed wood and suspended kayaks and canoes. It was a precursor to the brand opening its massive Fifth Avenue flagship, which will also mark the launch of Polo women’s.
At the Vogue-hosted cocktail, Hannah Bronfman manned the turntables toward the back, taking breaks to say hello to Harry and Peter Brant Jr., Lauren Remington Platt, Casey Fremont Crowe, Gucci Westman and David Neville, and Anh Duong. Most eyes were drawn toward the front of the store, where the substantial Figueras brood was installed. “We have my kids here, my wife, my parents, my sister…” Nacho Figueras trailed off as his eyes scanned the litter — three generations of ridiculously good-looking beings decked out in all manner of cable knit and distressed denim. “There’s like 15 of us.”
Figueras and his wife, Delphina, along with a few other guests — Rachel Zoe and Rodger Berman, Elettra Wiedemann and James Marshall — dipped out near the end of the cocktail and migrated north of town to Donna Karan’s beach house, where she was hosting her Haiti in the Hamptons summer carnival bash. If guests had trouble locating the home, the thumping drum echoing in the winding surrounding roads certainly helped. The music got louder as each guest’s black car snailed up toward the valet.
“Isn’t this great?” Karan beamed. She was pointing to the source of the sound, a 14-piece band of Haitian musicians stationed at the entrance. “The music of Haiti, we wanted to make sure their energy really registered tonight. Haiti is all about creativity and the artists,” she said.
Karan’s friends — Paul Haggis, Harvey Weinstein, Anjelica Huston, Calvin Klein, Molly Sims and Christie Brinkley among them — began to stream in. Wiedemann and Marshall, along with pup Happy, slipped out just as dinner was served. “She’s unimpressed,” Wiedemann grinned, holding her tired pup in her arms. “She’s like, ‘Been there, done that.’”
