OPENINGS AND ENDINGS: On Monday, Moncler unveiled its new boutique in Milan’s Via Montenapoleone, which carries all the brand’s collections, including the Gamme Rouge and Gamme Bleu lines, designed by Giambattista Valli and Thom Browne, respectively. Conceived by Moncler’s go-to architecture studio Gilles & Boissier, the store features Carnian stone slabs, wood paneling and ceiling beams. The existing unit on Via Spiga will not be closed, and will see the addition of the Moncler Enfant line in July.
In nearby Via Manzoni, located within Ittierre’s IT’S 30 Manzoni department store, in the frescoed 18th century Palazzo Gallarati Scotti, the new Thierry Mugler boutique opened on Tuesday, flanking the Pierre Balmain unit unveiled earlier during men’s fashion week. Mugler plans to open boutiques in Paris and Hong Kong within the next two years. Although the license between Ittierre and Mugler has not been confirmed, market sources speculate it is in the making. Balmain is also an Ittierre licensee.
This week, Ittierre revealed the termination of the Costume National license after two years, before its five-year expiration. The company is currently evaluating the future of the C’N’C line. Ittierre has been growing its portfolio of brands with new licenses, including Aquascutum, Karl Lagerfeld Paris, Tommy Hilfiger Collection and Jean Paul Gaultier’s men’s collection and the designer’s new streetwear line for men and women.
