SCANTILY CLAD: Waris Ahluwalia managed to draw a crowd for his first presentation, at the Museum of Art and Design. Whether that was a result of his scantily clad models (in just underwear and a House of Waris scarf) or Ahluwalia’s design cred remains to be seen.
Chloë Sevigny showed up and said her favorite part of fashion week was “seeing what my friends create, and celebrating my friends, enjoying what they do.” So far as Ahluwalia is concerned, Sevigny said his first presentation was imperative for the education of a larger fashion crowd. “They know Waris, they’ve seen him around forever, but have never really seen his work, so it’s a great thing for him to finally have a presentation during fashion week when everybody’s here and everybody can celebrate him,” she said.
Sevigny is taking time off, having just wrapped six months of filming “Big Love.” “I’m taking a little time, working on a collection for Opening Ceremony, I have something in development at HBO, and I’m auditioning and reading scripts, but I don’t have anything lined up,” she said, adding that the aesthetic for her new collection would be “leather and lace.”
Designer Tara Subkoff had tentatively planned to do a collaboration with Ahluwalia, which was nixed at the last minute due to time constraints.
