ON THE HUNT: It appears J. Crew is set to lay down roots in London soon. Millard “Mickey” Drexler, J. Crew’s chairman and chief executive officer, was spotted in London this week — on his way to Pitti Immagine Uomo in Florence — scoping potential locations for the brand’s first stores outside North America. A selection of J. Crew merchandise is available internationally through Net-a-porter.com, and earlier this month the company unveiled a distribution tie-up with Lane Crawford in Asia. Industry sources in London added that Drexler was meeting this week with real estate agents and property owners in his hunt for store space. The plan is to open one or more stores in central London next year.
