ON SHOW IN TOKYO: Prada brought its spring collections to the Japanese capital Tuesday with a fashion show and party held in an industrial warehouse in the outskirts of the city. The brand provided cars to take guests to the far-flung venue, but more than one driver lost his way on the unfamiliar streets. Once people arrived and were greeted by friendly staff members dressed in white mechanics’ coveralls, most seemed to forget the journey and concentrate instead on the event.
Both female and male models walked the runway, at the center of which were red, black and white foam stools for VIPs, as well as a cartoonish car. Diane Pernet sat in the car filming the show, which was live-streamed on Prada’s Web site. Other bloggers on hand included Bryanboy and Susie Bubble, while Nicola Formichetti sat in the front row.
Pernet, who flew in from Miami and would be returning to Paris the following day, said she was “exhausted” but that the trip had been worth it. “I had such a great seat,” she said. “Working with Prada is great; they’re all so sweet.”
After the show, the crowd gathered for a cocktail party in the adjacent room, which was decorated with colorful classic cars in immaculate condition, culled from collectors across Japan just weeks before. On the walls were projected images from Fifties-era films, and an all-girl band played a live set of tunes reminiscent of Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry.
