NO REGRETS: Olivier Picasso buzzed into New York for Wednesday’s opening of “Revealed,” a photography exhibition he curated from the collection of Paris Match. Images of his prolific grandfather Pablo are among the 30 shots of artists on view at the Sofitel Lexury Hotels’ West 44th Street location.
Salvador Dalí at the Paris Zoo; Jeff Koons styling a BMW for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and Kees Van Dongen doing a painting of Brigitte Bardot are among the images as well as ones of Rene Magritte, Marc Chagall, Joan Miro, Jean Cocteau, Francis Bacon, and others.
Olivier Picasso, author of the newly-released “Picasso, Portrait In Time,” (Albin Michel/Arte éditions) opted not to comment about Anne Baldassari’s dismissal Tuesday as president of Musée Picasso. Looking relaxed in a custom navy Prada suit without a tie, he gestured at a photograph of his grandfather in black tie at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival and said, “That is the only photograph of him wearing a bow tie. He was going to a screening of the film about his life, ‘Le Mystère Picasso.’”
The Picassso-curated “Revealed” will tour four other Sofitel hotels after he folds in New York in late August. Olivier Picasso also made time for some nonfamily art viewing with “Jasper Johns: Regret” at the Whitney Museum of Art being his absolute must. “Go — just go,” he said of the 12-piece show of the artist’s most recent work.
