NONOCCUPATION: A handful of Occupy Wall Street demonstrators showed up at the Calvin Klein fashion show Thursday afternoon, but showgoers didn’t seem to notice. “Our march didn’t happen, because of the rain,” said Justin Stone-Diaz, information coordinator for Occupy Wall Street. He explained that a large group had originally planned to march from Liberty Plaza to the Calvin Klein show. Stone-Diaz, who was wearing dripping-pepper-spray red-eye makeup and standing outside the show, said the demonstrators were there to educate the public about their cause and engage people in conversation but didn’t want to be disruptive. “We don’t want to ruin the Calvin Klein show,” said Stone-Diaz. He said they chose Calvin Klein’s show more because of the “symbolic nature of it, and it’s the last day of fashion week.”
Alexander Penley, an international lawyer who’s involved with the Occupy Wall Street movement, said the fashion industry also has an unemployment problem, and the movement is trying to put people to work and get things on a more balanced level.
“We don’t vilify the 1 percent. We’re hoping to educate them,” added Stone-Diaz.
