HEAVY METAL: The 15,000-plus women who lined up at the start of Sunday’s inaugural Nike Women’s Half Marathon in Washington D.C. had incentive to go the distance — a Tiffany & Co. finishers necklace. Nike also doles out Tiffany & Co hardware at its marathon in San Francisco. A Nike spokeswoman said, “The goal of the partnership is to create a covetable reward for race finishers that also celebrates the Nike Women’s Marathon and Nike Women Half Marathon in a way that is distinctly for women.
Joan Benoit Samuelson and Shalane Flanagan turned up for their sponsor Nike. Nike also sold created three different types of customized footwear for half marathoners imprinted with “We Run DC” including two styles with the date of the race “4/28/13.”
