NICOLE’S WISDOM: Nicole Fischelis, Macy’s group vice president, fashion director and global forecaster, has been getting to know the students at The High School of Fashion Industries. About two years ago, Fischelis gave a speech at the school. “I told them to always look to their intuition. That we live in a civilization that’s too analytical,” Fischelis said. “Then they were questioning me and questioning me, and asking some very personal questions, like how did I get to where I am. It was a very unique vibe. I was touched by the students. Many of them are from underprivileged homes, but a very, very high percentage of the students have excellent school records.”
On May 14, The High School of Fashion Industries will give her an award for her work in the world of fashion, which will be presented by Rose Marie Bravo, the former chief executive officer of Burberry and Saks Fifth Avenue president who worked with Fischelis at Saks. Fischelis, who also worked at Salvatore Ferragamo for several years before joining Macy’s, said she doesn’t know what she’ll say to the students at the award ceremony. She continues to be involved with the students, sometimes roping them in as interns to work on projects at Macy’s, including trend forecasting for the Millennial customer. She’s also steered some students to internships at other companies.
