NEXT STEP: Proenza Schouler inked a licensing deal with Iris SpA to manufacture and distribute the label’s shoes. The partnership is effective with the 2013 pre-fall season, which the company is showing this month.
Iris’ portfolio of shoe lines includes Marc Jacobs, Chloè, Michael Kors, Jil Sander and Nina Ricci, and the company, which is based in Fiesso d’Artico, near Venice, also operates its own shoe boutiques, including one in New York’s Meatpacking District.
Designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez first launched footwear in 2008 though a licensing arrangement with Vicini SpA, the company founded by shoe designer Giuseppe Zanotti and his wife Cinzia.
The new partnership with Iris is seen as a relaunch of Proenza Schouler shoes with plans for significant growth. Proenza Schouler ceo Shirley Cook lauded Iris’ “incredible commitment to design and quality. Iris and Proenza Schouler share many ideals and we are looking forward to a building a well-rounded and exciting product.”
