NEXT SHOW: Florence’s Gucci Museum is gearing up to celebrate Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos with an exhibition opening on June 19, during the upcoming edition of international men’s wear trade show Pitti Immagine Uomo. The exhibition will show three artworks, which are part of Kering chairman and chief executive officer François-Henri Pinault’s rich contemporary art collection, realized by Vasconcelos between 2008 and 2011: “Red Independent Heart”; “Lavoisier” and “Psycho.”
Vasconcelos, who studied at Lisbon’s Ar.Co Centre for Art and Visual Communication and who was the first female artist to show at the Palace of Versailles in 2012, deals with social and political issues by decontextualizing and deconstructing household objects and established cultural classifications. Paying homage to her country, the artist also incorporates traditional Portuguese crafts, such as crochet, filigree and ceramics, into her works.
