Elie Tahari Fetes New Bag... Fashion's Night Out's Global Push...

MOTHER’S DAY: Emmy Rossum had a surprise visitor when she feted the Emmy Bag she created with Elie Tahari at his West Broadway boutique on Thursday: her mother, Cheryl Rossum, who showed up at the shindig to toast her daughter’s designing efforts. “My mom never comes to anything,” a beaming Rossum said. “I told her that it’s OK, that it’s for a bag, and that I would get her one if she came.” Sticking to her word, Rossum bought a yellow Emmy for her mother that night. She wasn’t the only one who splurged on the bag, which benefits Safe Horizon. “We sold 15 at the event alone, and they are flying out of our stores, which is amazing for Safe Horizon and also a tribute to Emmy’s sense of style,” Tahari said.

FASHION’S NIGHT OUT’S GLOBAL PUSH: It won’t just be the U.S. that gets a slice of the Fashion’s Night Out action. As in previous years, the event will take place globally. There will be 17 countries participating in this fall’s event, starting on Sept. 6, when Russia’s Fashion’s Night Out will take place. That will be followed by Spain on Sept. 7, with Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Portugal, the U.K. and São Paulo, Brazil, all holding their events on Sept. 8, along with the U.S. Come Sept. 9, Brazil will hold another event, in Rio de Janeiro, followed by Taiwan and India on the 10th, China on the 11th and Turkey on Sept. 15.

Alexandra Shulman, editor of British Vogue, said of the London event: “We’re delighted to draw people’s attention to the fact that fashion and retail are a hugely important and enjoyable part of [the U.K.’s] economy. Last year, we had 270 stores in central London participating, while shoppers embraced the mood in what felt like one large party,” she said. “We’re looking forward to an even bigger and brighter night later this year.”

ITALIAN JOB: Plenty of top designers have been vying to dress Charlene Wittstock for her July 2 marriage to Prince Albert of Monaco, but none has yet claimed victory. At the Monaco palace, the press department said that information about the wedding gown will be revealed as close to the actual wedding as possible. That hasn’t stopped Karl Lagerfeld from making a strong prediction. In an interview with French daily Nice-Matin last Friday, Lagerfeld said he would not be designing the future princess’s gown, while adding that “Giorgio Armani should be designing it.” Chez Armani, it’s still “No comment.” In the same interview, Lagerfeld noted he is working on a project at the Monaco Métropole hotel. He will redesign the pool space with special decor to create a new restaurant.

BACK TO SCHOOL: Details for the May 9 Parsons Fashion Benefit are beginning to emerge. Among them, Harper’s Bazaar editor in chief Glenda Bailey will be on hand at Pier 60 that night to present honoree Reed Krakoff. The school will also hand out Parsons Table awards to Marvin Traub and Arnold Aronson, who have been longtime supporters of the benefit and, according to the school, helped raise millions of dollars toward Parsons scholarships.
