MORE THAN SHOES: Footwear company Bruno Magli, which tapped Max Kibardin in the fall to relaunch its business, is gearing up to enter the ready-to-wear arena.
During Saturday’s fall presentation, the brand gave a taste of bigger things to come by introducing a hyper-feminine women’s leather-centered capsule, inspired by the sophisticated atmosphere of “Marnie,” the 1964 Alfred Hitchcock psychological thriller.
For fall, Kibardin designed soft napa leather knee-length pleated skirts, which were paired with matching pleated tops and worn with a zipped shearling cape featuring three-quarter-length sleeves or a black leather coat. The lineup also included a graphic long-sleeve leather shirtdress in several color-blocked combinations, such as black with green and chocolate brown with red, along with a luxury mink fur coat.
Magli also presented a few men’s pieces, and will introduce a full-fledged collection in June at Pitti Uomo. Chief executive officer Armin Mueller said Kibardin will revamp the brand’s Milan store with a new concept in the second half of this year and will relaunch the Web site by the end of June. To boost expansion in the U.S., which represents the brand’s most important market, along with Japan, the firm will open a showroom in New York, as well as a flagship on Madison Avenue by the end of the year.
