MORE ON LEPORE: Mars may have been the inspiration for her fall 2013 collection, but it is their daughter Violet who inspired the L’amour Nanette Lepore junior shops at J.C. Penney that launched on Feb. 2, according to Robert Savage, chief executive officer at Nanette Lepore and the designer’s husband. Savage, who was greeting guests at Lepore’s runway show Wednesday, said that Violet often attends meetings and provides input for the line, which targets juniors between ages 15 and 20. Savage noted that the day of the runway show also coincided with Violet’s 15th birthday.
Scott Stringer, Manhattan borough president, who has said he will next run for city comptroller, was also present to support Lepore and her work on the “Save the Garment Center” campaigns.
Stringer has plans to expand the garment industry in New York. “I don’t want to shrink the industry. I want to look for ways to expand it,” Stringer said, noting that it’s in part a question of how one positions the sector so that it’s also helping the local economy.
