PARIS — Mode et Finance, the French venture capital firm managed by Bpifrance, has taken a minority stake in Yiqing Yin, the Paris-based label best known for its intricately pleated couture creations.
The investment will allow Yiqing Yin, launched in 2011, to grow its activities.
“It allows us to build a slightly bigger team to deal with the development of the collections and enrich and reinforce our ready-to-wear offer. In addition, it also gives us additional means to develop sales,” said Guillaume Lambert, chief executive officer of Yiqing Yin.
Yin’s ready-to-wear line is carried in around 10 multibrand stores in Europe, the United States and Asia, including Montaigne Market in Paris and Joyce in Hong Kong and Beijing, he said.
Born in Beijing, Yin left China at age 4 and went on to study at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. She won the Grand Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris for fashion in 2010 and the following year, scooped up the First Collections Prize at the Andam Fashion Awards.
The designer, who made headlines by dressing Audrey Tautou for the opening ceremony of last year’s Cannes Film Festival, was recently named creative director of Leonard and will show her first collection for the French fashion house on March 3.
Mode et Finance specializes in long-term investments in small and medium-size companies in the fashion and luxury sectors that are profitable, generate revenues of at least 500,000 euros ($650,000 at current exchange), and show strong potential for international growth.
Brands that have benefited from the company’s financial investment in the past include Each x Other, Ami, Nicolas Andreas Taralis, Bouchra Jarrar, Maison Martin Margiela, A.F. Vandevorst, Anne Valérie Hash and Polux.
