Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Events Rescheduled

The dedication and gala honoring Tommy Hilfiger and other supporters were canceled last month because of Hurricane Irene.

MLK GALA RESET: The organizers of the foundation behind the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial have rescheduled a gala honoring Tommy Hilfiger and other supporters, as well as the dedication ceremonies at the memorial that were canceled last month because of Hurricane Irene. The “Celebration Dream Gala” has been rescheduled for Oct. 15 and the dedication ceremony, at which President Obama is expected to speak, has been slated for Oct. 16. The new date is the 16th anniversary of the Million Man March on the National Mall, organized to encourage black men to improve their lives and make their voices heard.

Hilfiger will attend the gala and the dedication ceremony as planned. The company will also donate custom baseball caps featuring artwork inspired by the memorial as well as custom polos for the event volunteers. Hilfiger will receive an award recognizing the company’s long-running support of the memorial at the gala.
