SECOND TIME LUCKY: With all eyes on London for the Olympics, perhaps it’s only fitting that more British high street chains are invading malls all over Asia. Miss Selfridge has just opened a store in the Philippine capital of Manila, in the upmarket Greenbelt 5 mall in the central business district of Makati City.
The franchise holder for the Philippines, Robinsons Specialty Stores Inc., seems to have a thing for British labels. The other brands in their portfolio include Dorothy Perkins, Warehouse, Topshop, Topman and Ben Sherman, with stores located in prime shopping centers all over the country.
This is not the first time Miss Selfridge has dipped its toes into the country. A previous store closed down some years back; the company was vague as to the reasons why. But an RSSI spokesperson said it was confident that the Filipino shopper would welcome Miss Selfridge with more enthusiasm the second time around. The aim is to make Miss Selfridge the go-to destination for young, feminine and flirty fashion.
The store carries current merchandise as offered in the U.K., which feature of-the-moment trends such as neons, pastels, Aztec prints, and florals, not to mention animal prints in multicolored brights.
Miss Selfridge already has stores in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia.
