MUSTO A-GO-GO: With a blog and a weekly column, Michael Musto is not lacking in things to do but that hasn’t deterred him from headlining the “Michael Musto’s 70s Disco Extravaganza” Feb. 17 at 54 Below. In the Eighties, the quick-witted scribe had a band that performed Motown covers for about five years but this will be his first stab at disco. He first warmed up to the idea of a comeback in December at The Cutting Room where he sang a rock version of “Oh Come All Ye Faithful.”

In a phone interview Tuesday, Musto said he is already nervous about this month’s gig, which will also feature The Village People’s original cowboy Randy Jones and Tony nominee Orfeh. The disco cover brand Elektrik Company will also be on stage, as will Snooky and Tish. “I will play seven or eight songs. This isn’t like a Madonna concert — I’m not that nimble,” Musto said. “But you’ll definitely get your entertainment.”

Musto’s contemporaries may also get a flashback being at 54 Below, the space used to house Studio 54. “I was fresh out of college and I was dazzled from the second I got in...I managed to get in every night because I was press. Steve Rubell would pull me out of the line.”
