MATTHEW MORRISON MAKES TIME: “Glee” star Matthew Morrison returned to his native Orange County, Calif., to perform live at the Omega opening in South Coast Plaza on Tuesday night. Casually dressed in a chambray shirt, khakis and a fedora, Morrison played the ukulele as he sang two of his original songs and classics like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” for a seated audience of 75 and several more passersby in the mall’s Jewel Court. “I could never afford anything at this mall when I was growing up, but now there is something for everyone here,” he said afterward. Even though Morrison described himself as “very punctual” without a watch, he was happy to sport Omega’s Aqua Terra timepiece as he talked about filming the current season of “Glee,” which he called “full-on” and his upcoming Mother’s Day release of the movie “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” with Cameron Diaz. “This last hiatus I focused on touring for my album, but during the next one I hope to make another film,” he said. Omega is just as busy; South Coast Plaza is its third California store after Los Angeles’ Beverly Center and the Westfield Topanga Mall. “This will definitely be the best-performing store outside of New York,” said Omega president Stephen Urquhart. “South Coast Plaza is a unique and money-generating environment that goes from the moderate to the high end. We need that traffic.” The event’s charity partner was Sandy Segerstrom Daniels’ Festival of Children Foundation. Daniels was on hand as one of the evening’s hosts, presiding over the 30-person post-event dinner at Marché Moderne. On Wednesday, Urquhart went to Houston to open the company’s 18th store in America in the Houston Galleria (there are 82 Omega stores worldwide). Omega plans to open four more stores this year in San Diego, Las Vegas, Detroit and Boca Raton. A San Francisco store is planned for 2012 as well as locations in Scottsdale and Seattle.
