MASHABLE CLOSES $14M IN SERIES A FUNDING: The social media and online news firm has closed on a $14 million series A funding round led by Tribune Digital Ventures. The firm had an initial close in January on $13.3 million in funding, and recently finalized nearly another $1 million to close the funding round. Other investors include Update Partners, New Markets Venture Partners and Social Starts, as well as several individual investors.

The company was founded by Pete Cashmore. The company plans to use the funding for investments in video, long-form journalism and international expansion, as well as for growing its Brand Lab storytelling platform.
