THE SCENT OF MONEY: It clearly wasn’t a typical Tuesday morning in the money pit, known as the New York Stock Exchange, when a distinguished-looking Maurice Marciano strolled in with five ultraleggy Guess models on his arm. Heads of middle-aged market makers dressed in their usual blue jackets swiveled like turnstiles as the razor-thin beauties started handing out samples of a new fragrance, Guess Seductive, the first fruit of the apparel firm’s new license with Coty Inc. Marciano, chairman and co-founder of Guess, had come to the exchange to ring the opening bell in honor of the scent’s launch. Joining him on the podium were Bernd Beetz, chief executive officer of Coty Inc., and Seductive spokesmodel Alyssa Miller, as well as a scrum of executives. Apparently, the bell ringing only whet Marciano’s appetite. He stayed at the Exchange all day for a series of private meetings with investors.
