MAN OF THE MOMENT: There is no underestimating the power Sir Paul Smith, whose hit exhibition, “Hello, My Name Is Paul Smith,” is set for an extended run at London’s Design Museum.
The show, which opened Nov. 15 and runs through March 9, is poised to remain open for a while longer due to its popularity, according to the designer, although the museum has yet to confirm the details.

Smith has also admitted to making unofficial, private visits to the show, which traces his history and highlights his many creations and inspirations, to check up on the large and small pieces on display. The latest visit came after Christmas — on one of the Design Museum’s busiest days of the year — when Smith was stalked by a starstruck German tourist, and followed around the exhibition by other, more discreet fans.
“At first, they can’t believe it’s actually him, and then they realize it is, and they just quietly follow him around the show,” said a Smith staffer.
In other Smith news, according to an unsourced report in The Daily Telegraph in London, Smith has hired Jonathan Saunders as a consultant on his upcoming women’s collection. A spokeswoman for Smith said: “Paul is the only named designer at Paul Smith,” while a spokesman for Saunders declined to comment on the report.
