MILAN — Gucci announced that Madonna will be a presenter of The Sound of Change Live, a concert slated for June 1 at London's Twickenham Stadium and hosted by the Chime for Change campaign, which Gucci launched in February.
The organization works to better the lives of women and girls worldwide by improving their access to education, health services and justice.
Gucci said Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Gordon and Sarah Brown, Jessica Chastain, Gloria Steinem, Freida Pinto, Aishwarya Rai and Zoe Saldana have also confirmed their participation as presenters.
As reported, Jennifer Lopez will take the stage alongside Beyoncé Knowles, Chime for Change committee co-founder and concert artistic director, as well as musical acts including Florence & the Machine, Timbaland, John Legend, Laura Pausini, Ellie Goulding, HAIM, Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora. Other presenters at the four-hour show are to include Blake Lively, James Franco and Jada Pinkett-Smith.
In a statement, Madonna, founder of the Ray of Light Foundation, noted that 60 percent of all children not in school are girls and two-thirds of the world’s illiterate are women. "I do not accept this," she said. " We need to change this and we will change this!”
Gucci creative director Frida Giannini founded Chime forChange with Knowles and Salma Hayek.
