Madison Avenue Raises Funds for Ballet

New York City Ballet dancers did their grand plie into nine retailers on Madison Avenue Thursday night to celebrate NYCB’s 50th anniversary at Lincoln Center.

New York City Ballet dancers did their grand plie into nine retailers on Madison Avenue Thursday night to celebrate NYCB’s 50th anniversary at Lincoln Center, mingle with shoppers, and raise money for NYCB’s Toe Shoe Fund. Each year, pointe shoes costs the NYCB $600,000.

Dancers participating in “Shop with the Dancers” were Sara Mearns, Megan Fairchild, Jared Angle, Savannah Lowery, Olivia Boisson, Lara Tong, Unity Phelan, Cameron Dieck, Megan Johnson, Stephanie Chrosniak, Emilie Gerrity and Alina Dronova. They were greeted by Honorary Committee hosts Indre Rockefeller, Alicia Quarles, William H. Wright, Maria Cristina-Anzola, Brynn Jinnett, Ann Moore, Sharon Novak, Rachel Mann, Hayley Kucich, Megan Kessler and Nell Kucich.

Store windows along the avenue are filled with costumes until Saturday, from “Swan Lake,” “Jewels,” “Coppelia,” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” “Shop with the Dancers” was the shopping night part of a week-long string of events at various retailers called On Your Toes on Madison Avenue, to support the ballet. All together, over $40,000 was raised.
