MACY’S GLAM SLAM: Macy’s Passport Presents Glamorama returned to Los Angeles Thursday night to celebrate its 31st anniversary and over $30 million raised for AIDS Project Los Angeles. Held at the Orpheum Theatre, the annual fashion show opened with a speech by Sharon Stone followed by performances from Cirque du Soleil and the Backstreet Boys. Stone, who has taken part in the event for 22 years, said, “I just hope people understand my gratitude because this is not something that anybody or any organization does individually; it’s something that we do as a community. Everybody has a family member, a friend of the family, or knows someone in their community with HIV or AIDS.” Echoed Macy’s chief executive officer Terry Lundgren, “We’ve had this event in L.A. for the last 20 years. This is about giving back to the communities that we participate in, and L.A. is a major venue for us. So for me, bringing together fashion with entertainment, music, fun and celebrity makes this really special. It’s going to help a lot with the awareness that this disease lives on and we cannot forget about it.” Later on, Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson made good on his promise to “take people down memory lane with classics like ‘As Long as You Love Me’ and ‘Backstreet’s Back,’” but the band also performed two singles from its new album, “A World Like This” and “Driving Me Insane.” After the show partygoers continued the celebration with hors d’oeuvres, a cotton candy stand and photo booth at the California Market Center.
