LVMH has launched a contest to find an orchestral work inspired by the theme “A Greener New York City.

GOING GREEN: Renaud Dutreil does his part to make New York a greener city. Every morning, the chairman of the U.S. arm of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton cycles to work, and carefully locks his bike at the red, stiletto-shaped rack by Bergdorf Goodman. On Monday, Dutreil and LVMH took their commitment to a better environment a step further. At a press conference, Dutreil unveiled the second installment of the luxury conglomerate’s partnership with the American Composers Orchestra, featuring a contest to find an orchestral work inspired by the theme “A Greener New York City.” Submissions for the “Greener New York City” piece are due Jan. 15, and the winner will be revealed in March. Erin Gee, the first competition’s winner, gave a performance at the event, which took place at the LVMH Tower. Gee’s LVMH-commissioned piece will premiere at Carnegie Hall on Nov. 30.



GUCCI ON THE BIG SCREEN: Ridley Scott is ready to make the movie about the storied Gucci family his next big project. After finishing “Robin Hood” with Russell Crowe, the Hollywood producer hopes to wrap filming of the as-yet-untitled Gucci movie by the end of next summer for a release in early 2011. The first step is to “get the script absolutely right,” Scott said as he sat next to his girlfriend, Giannina Facio, at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art’s gala on Saturday night. “Well, we have a script. It’s kind of getting there.” Despite rumors swirling around that Angelina Jolie and Leonardo DiCaprio will star in the film, Scott said it’s too early to determine the cast. What’s certain is the amount of vast research behind the project, which was initiated by Facio, a Costa Rican actress of Italian descent who shares producer duties on the Gucci biopic. “I went and met with all the Gucci members. We read memoirs,” Facio said. Scott added, “It’s the history of the family and how it evolved.”



HEAVY MEDAL: Alber Elbaz, famous for his bow ties, will soon have a new accessory competing for attention. On Friday, the Lanvin designer is heading to the city hall in Paris where Mayor Bertrand Delanoë plans to decorate him with the Grande Médaille de Vermeil de la Ville de Paris. The vermilion medal is an honorary distinction, given to cultural figures who have an impact on the city. Past recipients include the designers Valentino and Gianni Versace, and the actress Maggie Cheung.



NOT SO FAST: Lindsay Lohan apparently has her signals crossed. To more than a little astonishment, the starlet, already artistic adviser to Emanuel Ungaro, principal at leggings label 6126 and co-creator of self-tanning brand Sevin Nyne, recently mentioned she got the nod to expand her unlikely fashion portfolio even further into jewelry. She indicated Pascal Mouawad, who has partnered on jewelry lines with Nicole Richie and Heidi Klum, and Bebe had linked arms with her in the new venture. Mouawad begs to differ. Although he acknowledged discussions about launching a jewelry line with Lohan for Bebe did take place, he declared in an e-mail that Lohan’s revelation a collection was on its way is inaccurate. “This is not happening,” he said bluntly.



GWEN’S GADGETS: L.A.M.B. and Harajuku Lovers are known for their highly styled accessories and handbags, but now they’re going tech. The two labels — both produced by New York-based Schifter + Partners — are partnering with Apple on a collection of accessories for personal electronics, including iPhone clutches, MacBook sleeves, gadget pouches and laptop totes. The L.A.M.B. line retails from $50 to $400 and includes two style groups: the coated canvas Signature collection, which will retail at Apple stores, Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom, and the embroidered leather Ultraviolet collection, which will be available at the Apple Online Store and select Apple retailers. The Harajuku Lovers collection is made of satin-weave nylon and features colorful and whimsical prints. Styles range from $30 to $100 at retail and will be available through Apple, Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s. The collections hit stores this month.



NEW ART: Fashion designer Brian Reyes is adding a new gig to his C.V.: art curator. He’s teamed with Zorianna L. Altomaro, founder of Zorya Fine Art, in organizing artist Oksana Mas’ “When Stars Align” show, which opens tonight at New York’s Ukrainian Museum and moves to the Zorya Fine Art gallery in Greenwich, Conn., in December. The collaboration, however, goes beyond this two-month exhibit. Reyes and Mas are also creating a series of prints, based on her work, for his fall 2010 collection. “I’m constantly looking at natural elements. I love that she does the same,” said Reyes, whose partnership with Mas is being documented by Orange Films. “Her colors are vivid and sensual and, for me as a Latin guy, they’re reminiscent of things I enjoy.” Naturally, Mas will be sitting front-and-center at his upcoming runway show come February. “She wants to do something for the stage setting, too,” Reyes added.
