FINISHING TOUCHES: The British men’s brands and high-end shopkeepers of St. James’s clubbed together for the first time this week at London Collections: Men for a breakfast presentation at Fortnum & Mason. Names ranging from perfumers Floris, to shoemakers Tricker’s, to shirt makers Budd and Emma Willis, to underpants experts Sunspel showcased the best of their British-made wares while The Crown Estate, which owns half of St. James’s and is fast transforming the area into a high-end retail hub, plugged its plans for the neighborhood. The London property company owned by Queen Elizabeth, is investing upwards of 500 million pounds, or $820 million, in the neighborhood, with lifestyle brands such as Barbour International, Tiger of Sweden, and Orvis opening along Piccadilly, and smaller names taking up new or refurbished spaces on Jermyn Street and nearby thoroughfares. “The Crown Estate is shining a torch on high-end British craftsmanship,” said Emma Willis, whose shirts are made in an 18th century townhouse in Gloucester, England, and who also specializes in bespoke designs for injured British servicemen. Christopher Mundy, a sales associate at the rival shirt maker Budd said: “There’s a healthy, friendly competition among us – unlike in most retail. We just want to let our customers know they can get everything they need right in the neighborhood."
